A pretty good strategy
I'm reading Pat Conroy these days, and I find myself laughing, crying, horrified, comforted--a wide spectrum of emotions.
Mostly, though, I find gems of wisdom in his work. This is one.
I'm cleaning house today and working on a project, and I was thinking about this quote. I would rather be doing something else, but if I have to wash clothes and dust, I might as well do them to the best of my ability. If I have to create a business plan, I might as well put my all into it.
I started the day with a text from a friend. He included a meme about luck being about the choices we make instead of chances. That's right. We might as well make our existence a minor work of art by making choices that lead us in that direction.
There are many far worse strategies than taking control and creating our own futures.

It's amazing to me how a clean house clears old emotional baggage and creates a whole new mindset in me. A mindset of a clear pathway in front of me with many good options to choose from. An exceptionally clean house will even inspire me to new design ideas or more optimal furniture arrangements, which leads to a home that better facilitates my life rather than frustrating it. If I create a better writing space I'll find myself in it more often and being more productive while in it. Never underestimate the power of a good house cleaning!
ReplyDeleteAmen, sister! When I find myself deep inside a writer's block, I almost always get up and clean house. I find that doing work that takes little thinking frees my mind for other considerations. I can't tell you how often I've ended up turning off the vacuum or leaving the dishes in the sink because, while cleaning, a great idea came to mind or the writer's block broke!
